Round 19 preview: Dolphins v Rabbitohs

Round 19 of the 2024 NRL Premiership begins this Thursday night as the Dolphins continue their top-four hunt against the in-form Rabbitohs in Redcliffe.

At home, the Dolphins are favourites at $1.65 with PlayUp, while South Sydney offer some value at $2.38 with Unibet. The line is set at 4.5 points.

Wayne Bennett’s men had a much-needed bye in round 18, as they had lost four of their previous five matches. In round 15, the Dolphins were an established top-four side with a game in hand over the chasing pack. But in the past month, they have dropped down to sixth, with their odds to make the top eight coming out to $2 with leading NRL bookmakers.

Missing State of Origin pair Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Felise Kaufusi, the Dolphins will continue to start Trai Fuller at fullback, while enforcer Tevita Pangai Junior earns a starting spot. The Rabbitohs won their fifth match in a row last Thursday, beating the Eels by 16 points at CommBank Stadium. Led by doubles from Jacob Gagai and Jack Wighton, South Sydney cruised to victory with three tries in each half.

Given the contrasting form of these two sides, the Rabbitohs will be confident of claiming another big scalp. As both teams are missing star players, the loss of Mitchell and Murray shouldn’t make too much difference. The Rabbitohs won the only clash between these sides last year, and there is value in backing them to do it again as $2.38 underdogs with Unibet.

The Dolphins have conceded at least 24 points in each of their last five matches, while Souths have scored 28 tries across their last five games. All signs point to a high-scoring affair, so back this game to go over 49.5 total points at $1.91 with top online bookmakers.
