Delhi Capitals down Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 showdown

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals handed Chennai Super Kings’ hopes of winning a sixth IPL title another blow on Saturday at Chepauk Stadium, winning by 25 runs thanks to a bruising innings by KL Rahul.

Cricket bookmakers gave CSK a slight edge heading into the match with Neds pricing the home side at $1.80 to win and get their campaign back on track.

Live cricket betting odds remained in the balance for the majority of the first innings as Delhi batted first but were cautious in their approach.

Captain Rahul did well on the tricky Chennai pitch after Jake Fraser-McGurk (0 from 5) fell in the opening over, batting through to the final over and anchoring the innings with his 77 runs from 51 balls.

Around him, Abishek Porel (33 from 20), Axar Patel (21 from 14), Sameer Rizvi (20 from 15) and Tristan Stubbs (24 from 12) all contributed nicely without ever really getting on top of the CSK bowlers.

The result was a target of 184 for the hosts to chase, which proved to be well above par given the tough batting conditions.

Early wickets fell for Chennai, with Kiwis Rachin Ravindra (3 from 6) and Devon Conway (13 from 14) misfiring at the top of the order alongside captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (5 from 4).

Vijay Shankar (69* from 54) rebuilt well with Shivam Dube (18 from 15) then took the game deep with national hero MS Dhoni (30* from 26).

However, with 67 runs needed from the final three overs, it was too little too late as CSK ended on 158/5.

“Not today, since the last three games, it’s not really going our way,” reflected Gaikwad after the match, which was Delhi’s first victory in Chennai in 17 years.

“We’re trying our level best in all three departments.

“I think powerplay is definitely a concern for us – in batting and bowling department. We’ve spotted that since the second game.

“We’re trying but it’s just not happening.

“I just think that we are over concerned or tentative about who’s coming on to bowl in the powerplay, we’re losing a wicket in the first or second over.

“We’re just over concerned about things in the powerplay.

“Everyone needs to come together. We need to make those things happen.

“Since the powerplay, we were always playing a catch-up game.”

CSK had been second-favourite ($6) across T20 betting apps to win the 2025 IPL heading into the tournament, but now sit on the last line of betting ($15) after losing three of their first four matches.
