Dame Giselle overcomes wide run in Furious

Dame Giselle is making a strong case for the title of Sydney’s dominant filly after leaving few excuses for her Furious Stakes rivals at Randwick.

Trapped three-wide without cover from her awkward draw, Dame Giselle ($3.80 fav) made light work of her tough run to win the Group Two fillies’ feature by a half-length over Hungry Heart ($4.40) with Forbidden Love ($10) third.

She added Saturday’s Furious Stakes (1200m) to her first-up Silver Shadow Stakes victory to clean sweep the first two legs of the four-race Princess Series.

Co-trainer Paul Snowden confirmed Dame Giselle would be given a chance to add the third leg and would progress to the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) in two weeks.

“She has done it twice now, three-deep with no cover and got away with a victory,” Snowden said.

“She is a special filly.

“We think she is going to excel at 1400, just getting a little bit more of a sit in her races midrace and she’s still got that devastating turn of foot which you saw today.”

Winning jockey Tommy Berry said Dame Giselle showed tenacity and had the ability to stamp herself as Sydney’s standout filly.

“We need a filly at the moment. There seem to be a lot of hot colts at the moment but the fillies have been a bit thin,” Berry said.

“She just overcame difficulties today which good horses can do.”
