Chiefs, Mahomes fall short as Eagles romp to Super Bowl win

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions for 2025 after clinching a dominant 40-22 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans on Monday (AEDT).

Top NFL betting sites had the Chiefs as slight favourites as they chased a third consecutive Super Bowl victory, but it was Philly who came out all guns blazing.

After a tight first quarter, the Eagles stepped things up a notch in the second term and put on 17 unanswered points to go into the halftime break 24-0 up.

Indeed, the final scoreline flattered the Chiefs, who did not register a point until superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes found Xavier Worthy in the endzone late in the third quarter.

Much of Philadelphia’s dominance was down to their defensive line, which continually pressured Mahomes and the Kansas City offense.

The Eagles managed six sacks for the game, five of which came in the first three quarters, along with two interceptions.

Some aggressive last-quarter plays papered over what was a curiously jittery display from Mahomes, who was aiming to become just the second player — after New England Patriots great Tom Brady — to claim four Super Bowl MVP awards.

Instead it was Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts who took the honours after throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns along with 75 rushing yards.

It is Philadelphia’s second Super Bowl triumph, coming eight years after their triumph against the Patriots in 2017.

Online bookmakers have the Eagles and Chiefs listed as equal favourites at $7 to win the Super Bowl in 2026, just ahead of the Baltimore Ravens ($7.50), Buffalo Bills ($8) and Detroit Lions ($9).
