Cameron Green sets Australian IPL record & Boxing Day test alight

Cameron Green has set an Australian cricket record at the most recent Indian Premier League auction where the 23 year old rising star’s services were secured for a whopping $3.38m by the Mumbai Indians. Green’s value has surpassed that of his test captain, Pat Cummins, when he went for $3.16m to the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Green secured roughly ten times his reserve amount set to join fellow Australians Tim David and Jason Behrendorff in Mumbai. Green’s incredible auction price was settled just minutes after English star bowler Sam Curran set an IPL record of $3.38m for his services to be plied for the Punjab Kings.

Green has only played eight matches in his international T20 career. Most recently in India, he sent the world T20 cricket world into a spin when he opened the batting for Australia and belted 61 runs from 30 balls and 52 runs from 21 balls respectively.

Green followed up his incredible auction price from the IPL with an incredible spell of bowling on Boxing Day for Australia against South Africa. Green became the first Australian to take a Boxing Day five wicket haul since the man whose name was honoured at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Shane Warne.

The towering 2 meter tall medium-fast bowler used his first spell to remove top order batsmen Theunis de Bruyn from the middle, before coming back with his second spell to destroy south Africa.

The Proteas has stabilised their innings through Marco Jansen and Kyle Verreynne before Green dismissed them both along with Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi to take four wickets for seven runs from 12 balls in a Scott Boland-esque spell.

Green will likely have plenty of opportunities to acclimatise to the Indian conditions again, should he be included in Australia’s upcoming tour that will be comprised of four test matches and three one day matches.

That series will be followed by the IPL where Green and the Mumbai Indians play the second match of the tournament on April 2 against the Dehli Capitals.
