Round 27: Bulldogs v Cowboys preview
The Canterbury Bulldogs can sneak into the top four on the NRL ladder with a win over the North Queensland Cowboys in Sydney on Saturday.
Despite last weekend’s disappointing loss to the Sea Eagles, the Doggies could secure a double chance in the finals if the Sharks suffer a heavy defeat in their clash with Manly on Sunday. However, with a 68-point differential to make up, it looks as though Canterbury will be fighting from the bottom half of the eight.
The Cowboys have too big a gap to breach in order to make the top four, but a win here could give them an easier matchup in the first week of finals. After beating the Raiders and Storm in succession, North Queensland may fancy their chances of claiming another scalp.
Cowboys coach Todd Payten has made one change to his side following last week’s win, dropping Jaxon Purdue to the reserves and promoting middle forward Thomas Mikaele to the bench.
On the other side of the field, Cameron Ciraldo has been forced to make two changes to his Bulldogs side with Bronson Xerri (suspended) and Matt Burton (concussion) both unavailable. Jacob Kiraz shifts to the centres, Jeral Skelton goes to the wing, and Drew Hutchison will start in the halves alongside Toby Sexton.

Bulldogs v Cowboys betting strategy
The Cowboys have won three of their last five matches against the Bulldogs, but the home side won their last meeting at this ground. Canterbury have won 10 of their last 11 home matches, and they’ve covered the line in each of their last five home games following a loss. With their faithful fans behind them, expect the Dogs to bounce back from last week’s loss to win and cover the line at $1.90 with major NRL betting sites.
Cowboys forward Jeremiah Nanai will likely be a focal point for the Bulldogs, as he has missed 14 tackles across the last three full games he’s played. Viliame Kikau will be attacking Nanai, and while the Bulldog has just four tries to his name this season, two of them have been against Queensland teams. At $4 with top online bookies, Kikau is great value to get over the line.
Canterbury forward Joshua Curran also has a great record against the Cowboys, scoring tries in three of his last four appearances. In the Cowboys’ last loss to the Broncos, they conceded tries to two middle forwards and a second-rower. North Queensland were far from assured against a depleted Storm side last week, so Curran could be a rewarding anytime tryscorer play at $6.20 with Unibet.
