Although the Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide Power did not make it to the 2021 AFL Grand Final, they were two of the best teams in the competition and should provide a great contest at the Gabba this Saturday night.
The Lions were knocked out of last season’s finals in straight sets, whilst the Power were beaten by 71 points in front of their home crowd in the preliminary final.
Both teams enter this season as genuine premiership contenders ready to make an impact, especially the Power after acquiring Jeremy Finlayson to boost their forward stocks.

Chris Fagan does not have any new assets to play with this season, but a few returning stars such as Cam Rayner and Jarrod Berry should give the team a big boost in the midfield.
The Brisbane Lions have had a great record against the Power since 2019, having won all of the last four contests by an average margin of around 30 points.
Ken Hinkley and the Power will start as underdogs and rightfully so, as they have not beaten the Lions at the Gabba since 2017.
Dynamic forwards are the reason both these teams are so dangerous, as any given forward can hit the scoreboard in a flurry. Connor Rozee and Zak Butters are two of the Power’s best targets inside 50, but Butters will spend more time in the midfield this season, leaving Rozee to carry the load.
Key matchup: Lachie Neale vs Ollie Wines
Lachie Neale and Ollie Wines are two of the best midfielders in the competition, but who will come out on top when the two Brownlow Medal winners clash? Neale did not get the chance to play against the Power in 2021, but he managed a whopping 43 touches against them back in 2019.
Wines was unstoppable against the Lions last season, putting up a ridiculous 37 disposals and a goal, but it was not enough to drag his team over the line. The two accumulators will be in the thick of the action this weekend, making them great choices for the disposal betting markets at Marantelli Bet.
Brisbane vs Port Adelaide match prediction
Everything points to a Brisbane win here. The Lions have had the wood over Port in recent years, and the Power have not won at the Gabba since Chris Fagan’s first year in charge of the Queensland club. The Power should be good enough to make it a contest, however, so the 1-39 margin looks the go.
Brisbane Lions 1-39
Brisbane vs Port Adelaide goalkicker betting
Connor Rozee burst onto the AFL scene back in 2019 after a five-goal performance against the Lions in his third career game, but he has not been great in front of the big sticks since. Since Robbie Gray, Orazio Fantasia and Charlie Dixon are all under injury clouds heading into round one, it will be up to Rozee to provide an avenue to goal this weekend, and we think his value to kick multiple goals is worth a look.
Connor Rozee 2+ goals
Brisbane vs Port Adelaide AFL same-game multi
It should be an easier opening match than expected for the Lions this Saturday, as Port Adelaide does not have enough firepower up forward to win the contest. We still think Rozee will kick a pair of goals, while Lachie Neale will hit the 30-disposal mark with ease.
Brisbane 1-39 / Rozee 2+ goals / Neale 30+ disposals
