KFC BBL New Year’s Day action continues in Brisbane with the Brisbane Heat hosting the Sydney Sixers at the Gabba. The Heat will be looking for inspiration to snap a two game losing streak and win again at home as they did over the Strikers. For the Sixers, they will be looking for a fifth straight win that could put them at the top of the Big Bash League ladder.
The Heat’s biggest weakness is in the bowling department where they not only fail to restrict opposition to small targets, but the ability to attack and take wickets in defending targets. The Sydney Sixers have shown the versatility to win batting first or second, and often, do so comfortably.
The Heat seemed to grow another leg when playing the Strikers at The Gabba, and in doing so, beat one of the form sides of the BBL. The Sixers may be the better side overall in this match, but if the Heat are able to replicate their performance from when they beat the Strikers, they can also beat the Sixers on Sunday paying $2.25 with the top betting sites.
When the Heat beat the Strikers, Max Bryant got the home side off to a fast start, but it was English superstar Sam Billings who led the home side to what ended up being a defendable total. Billings has an incredible ability to start slow and build into an innings before blowing the opposition away late with his power and broad shot range. Billings will certainly be looking to play a leading role again for the home side and is great value to be the Heat’s top run scorer paying $5.
Michael Neser’s return to the Heat side from the Australian test squad has been enormous for their bowling stocks. This was evident when Neser took a hattrick in his first game back for the Heat, and he will be the spearhead of the home side’s attack once again. Neser is a Gabba specialist who will attack the Sixers top order and search for wickets early. Should Neser make inroads early, he can be sure to bag 2+ wickets for the Heat at $2.10.
KEY MATCH UP: Josh Phillipe v Michael Neser
The clash at the top of the order, be it in the first innings or second, will set the tone for this clash. Neser has been an incredible addition to the Heat squad and their chances of winning matches and will be pivotal in their chances at The Gabba again. Standing in Neser’s way early will be Phillipe who can and will take the match away from the Heat quickly if given the chance. Phillipe was at his destructive best against the Renegades in Sydney, and if the Heat don’t remove him quickly, could make the evening in the field incredibly difficult along with their run chase.
