Bookies face blowout if McGregor shocks Mayweather
HE may be the significant underdog going into Sunday’s bout against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, but the bookmakers are set for a catastrophic fall if Conor McGregor ends his opponent’s 49-fight streak.
McGregor, who is the +300 outsider at Sportsbet.com.au, has seen his odds tumble since opening at the +500 mark.
Sportsbet has taken four mega bets totalling $90,000 on the Notorious One, including a $30,000 stake on the dual UFC champion at +400.
If McGregor wins, bookies could be smacked with an eight-figure payout.
A Sportsbet.com.au representative said the -370.37 favourite Mayweather winning is the best case scenario.
“We’ll be looking at close to a $10 million payout if McGregor wins so we’ll be cheering Floyd all the way,” the spokesperson said.
Sportsbet will face unprecedented financial damage if Conor can pull off the upset.
“It’ll be the biggest payout we’ve ever had to make, even worse than Trump winning the US election, but it won’t hurt the world as much,” the spokesperson added.
“We’re holding as much money on a McGregor KO as we are on all of the other method of victory options combined.”

McGregor is paying +325 to win via KO or TKO at Sportsbet.com.au.
Nevada bookmakers are set to be hit even harder if McGregor’s professional boxing debut ends in victory.
Zach Jornlin, who is a sportsbook supervisor at the MGM in Vegas, told The NY Post that the Vegas casino could face the “worst loss in the history of MGM Resorts” if Conor causes the upset.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. I can’t believe it’s this lopsided,” Jornlin said.
“There are over 6,000 more tickets for McGregor than there are for Mayweather.
“A lot of people hate Mayweather and a lot of people want to see him get knocked out, and make some money.
“This would be a really, really bad loss for us.
“The whole world is betting McGregor, and [the line] just keeps dropping and dropping.”
While everyone else seems to be betting on the Irishman, one notable investor is reportedly about to unload a truckload of cash on the man they call ‘Money’.
