Every year these clubs participate in Maddie’s Match, a fundraiser in memory of Maddie Riewoldt, who passed away due to a rare bone marrow disease.
The recent matches between the Saints and Tigers have seen varied results. St Kilda’s 67-point win last season is the stand-out win in recent years — a result that gives the Saints a glimmer of hope this week.
The Tigers come into the match needing a win to maintain its place atop the ladder after a thrilling two-point loss to GWS last week, while St Kilda had a glorified practice match against Carlton.
Many experts are giving the Tigers very short odds for this match, but we can see the Saints putting up a fight.
Here are our tips for this week’s match — we’ve found value in player and scoring updates.
St Kilda Saints vs. Richmond Tigers Round 18 – Player Specials Tips
Jack Billings to get 25 Disposals @ $2.30
In last week’s big win over the Blues, Billings stared with 30 disposals and two goals. When coming up against the stronger Tigers outfit, Billings will need to replicate a similar performance to give his side any chance of winning.
Kane Lambert to get 30 Disposals @ $4.50
We love this bloke, simply because he keeps paying us out on our punts. Kane Lambert has successfully found the footy over 25 times in his last three matches since the bye round. On top of that, he also had a 33-disposal game against the Swans. Kane’s value to get 25 touches dropped lower than we wanted, this has led us in the direction of 30 disposals, which we know Lambert is capable of. With the amount of running this man does, it’s no wonder he can find the footy so often. Expect to see Kane at the top of the stat-sheet by the end of Friday’s match.
St Kilda Saints vs. Richmond Tigers Round 18 – Total Goals Tips
St Kilda Saints 9.5 Over/Under
Over @ $1.87
In a match that the Saints kicked very poorly, they still managed to slot 16 majors. When you have 36 shots on goal, you would expect at least half of them to be goals. This week when they battle the Tigers, we can see them kicking well beyond nine goals. In fact, we think they will be capable of kicking far into the ‘teens. Richmond still has a great defence that work well together, but if the Saints can use their pace and accurate kicking, we are confident they can kick over nine goals.
Richmond Tigers 15.5 Over/Under
Over @ $1.92
The slow St Kilda back six are just not up to scratch with most backlines in the comp. When it comes time to stop Jack Riewoldt, we don’t think they’re good enough. The Tigers will easily exceed the 15 goal mark and poll a very high score against the struggling Saints. With so many excellent small forwards, we think the Tigers have one of the best forward lines in the comp.
St Kilda Saints vs. Richmond Tigers Round 18 – First to Tip
First team to 6 Behinds
St Kilda Saints @ $3.50
We did mention how atrocious the St Kilda kicking was last week, and to no one’s surprise, we see them kicking wayward once again. There will be plenty of opportunities for the young Saints to score — but Richmond’s pressure is a big factor here.
Tigers vs. Saints Match Predictions
Match Result: Richmond Tigers to win @ $1.13
Line Betting: St Kilda Saints + 39.5 @ $1.92
The Tigers will take the Saints to the cleaners for most of the match. The Tigers winning is one thing we are fairly confident in, but whether they will clear the line makes us a little nervous, and with so many upsets in the last week of footy, maybe it will be best to take the Saints at the line.
