Bells Beach Pro called off for day due to poor wave conditions

The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, which is stop number four on the World Surf League (WSL) 2023 Championship Tour (CT), has been called off for the day due to lack of swell in the water for competition to get underway.

The WSL Tours and Competition team will determine the next call time later today.

When competition commences, the first heat of the women’s opening round will see three rising stars of the Championship Tour – Caitlin Simmers (USA), Bettylou Sakura Johnson (HAW), and Sophie McCulloch (AUS) – in what is sure to be an exciting exchange.

Matthew McGillivray (RSA) and Dylan Moffat (AUS) will have their work cut out for them in Heat 4 of the men’s opening round when they take on current world number two Joao Chianca (BRA), who is fresh off a win at the recent CT event in Portugal.

In late news, Miguel Pupo pulled out of the men’s draw at Bells Beach and will be replaced by Australian Morgan Cibilic, who is the second highest ranked surfer on the Challenger Series (CS).

Pupo, who was a rank +10000 outsider with sports betting sites to win the Bells Beach Pro outright, was to have faced John John Florence and Hawaiian enigma Barron Mamiya in the last of 12 heats of the men’s opening round.
