Australia’s Rugby Sevens teams set for Paris Olympics

Paris Olympics Rugby Sevens Announces Pool Draw

Australia’s Rugby Sevens teams are gearing up for the 2024 Paris Olympics with different backgrounds but a shared goal in mind.

The women’s team (Wallyroos), which won gold in 2016, is determined to reclaim their success, with Neds pricing them as the second favourite at $2.50, just behind New Zealand.

Despite a stellar performance in Tokyo, they have gone with a younger squad.

In contrast, the men’s team (Wallabies) has faced challenges, falling short of reaching the medal rounds in Rio and Tokyo.

There were discussions about bringing in former Wallabies captain Michael Hooper before his retirement.

Both teams will see impacts from a fundraising initiative introduced in March 2024 to secure Australia’s Olympic sports future.

The Wallabies team recently secured third place at the Hong Kong Sevens tournament, which has helped the top rugby bookmakers price the Wallabies at $13.

Rugby Sevens Announces Draw

Challenges await the Wallyroos’ team in Pool B, where they will face competition from Ireland, Great Britain, and South Africa, which is scheduled from July 28 to 30.

On the other hand, the men’s rugby union team will battle it out in Pool B against Argentina, Samoa, and Kenya from July 24 to 27.

Securing their spots through performances in the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series of 2022–23, both Australia’s women’s and men’s teams have earned their places at this event.
