Australian Open SF betting tips & best odds – 28/1/2022
A spot in the 2022 Australian Open men’s final will be on the line this Friday in Melbourne as the four remaining competitors face off in the semis.
Matteo Berrettini will take on Rafael Nadal, while Stefanos Tsitsipas will battle the outright favourite in Daniil Medvedev.
Berrettini and Nadal advanced through the quarter finals in near-identical fashion, as they both won sets one and two before dropping the third and fourth, eventually securing the victory in a five-set belter.
It looked as if Medvedev was done and dusted after losing his first two sets against Felix Auger-Aliassime, but he won the third set tiebreaker and ultimately came away with a famous victory in the quarter finals.
Tsitsipas started at long odds with online bookmakers against the up-and-coming Jannik Sinner, but that did not phase him as he smashed the Italian in straight sets.
Nadal is the only remaining player who has won an Australian Open, but will his experience be enough to defeat his in-form Italian opponent?
Matteo Berrettini ($2.72) vs Rafael Nadal ($1.44)
This will be the second time Matteo Berrettini and Rafael Nadal face off on the court, and it will also be the second time they meet in the last four at a Grand Slam.
Nadal swiftly dismissed the Italian in straight sets in the 2019 US Open semi finals, as the inexperienced Berrettini simply could not keep up with the Spanish legend.
Berrettini has improved drastically since then, which he showcased in the quarter finals against Gael Monfils. The world no.7 came out of the blocks with pace and looked very stable in the first two sets, which we think he can replicate against Nadal.
Although Berrettini will be against the odds to knock out Nadal, we think he can strike an early blow and pinch the opening set of the match.
Matteo Berrettini to win 1st set
Stefanos Tsitsipas ($3.06) vs Daniil Medvedev ($1.36)
Almost 12 months after these two men clashed in the 2021 Australian Open semi finals, they will once again go head-to-head on the hard court in Melbourne.
Just when we thought Stefanos Tsitsipas was going to bite the bullet, he found another gear and completely destroyed Jannik Sinner. The 23-year-old looked very calm and calculated in the quarter finals, picking apart Sinner in just over two hours.
On the other hand, Daniil Medvedev could not have scraped through by a smaller margin, as he just barely got over the line against Felix Auger-Aliassime. Medvedev’s quarter final five-setter lasted almost five hours and would have taken a huge toll on his body.
Medvedev beat Tsitsipas in straight sets last year, but we think their rematch will be a much tighter contest.
Daniil Medvedev to win 3-2
