Australia vs Sri Lanka match preview – 2023 Cricket World Cup
The ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 continues on Monday night as Australia take on Sri Lanka at BRSABVE Stadium in Lucknow. Two sides are still winless in this tournament; the winner jumps right back into contention for a semi-final spot, but the loser may see their knockout hopes disappear very early into the tournament.
Australia Team News
The Aussies put in another disappointing performance in their last match against South Africa, going down by 134 runs. Bowling first, a sloppy performance in the field saw the South African batsmen regularly given a second chance as five catches went down. Glenn Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers with 2-34, whilst a double wicket maiden from Mitchell Starc held South Africa to 311. A disappointing effort with the bat saw the Aussie batting line-up struggle as they were bowled out for 177 in 40.5 overs.
After making a couple of changes to the side for the last game, the selectors will now face the dilemma of who is in their strongest eleven after neither inclusion was particularly impressive. For a greater bowling attack, the Aussies may look to bring back all-rounder Cameron Green to the side but will most likely keep Marcus Stoinis in the side as a result of the Aussies’ poor batting performances so far.
Sri Lanka Team News
Sri Lanka also suffered defeat, but in a much more respectable fashion, as they went down to Pakistan by six wickets in a World Cup record run chase. Led by hundreds Kusal Mendis and Sadeera SamarawIckrama, Sri Lanka looked set for a massive total, but late wickets saw them score just 60 runs of their last ten overs to reach 344. A disappointing bowling effort saw South Africa able to bat comfortably in the chase as they got there with 1.4 overs to spare. Sloppy in the field, they also bowled 25 wides, which ultimately proved the difference in the end.
Despite the loss, Sri Lanka will feel confident in their batting ability against the Australian attack. However, they may look to strengthen their bowling attack that has conceded the record highest score against, and the record biggest run chase in their two matches so far.

Australia vs Sri Lanka betting tips – ODI World Cup 2023
Match Winner
After their disappointing start to the tournament, the Aussies will be looking to get some of their batsmen in form against a bowling line-up that has leaked runs so far this World Cup. Expect the Aussies to be too strong for Sri Lanka in this one at -333.33 with Neds.
Australia Top RunScorer
Australia’s best batsman in the tournament so far, Steve Smith, has yet to convert either of his starts into solid scores. Batting at three and usually playing the anchor role in the side, expect Smith to spend time at the crease while other batsmen attack around him. We like him to be Australia’s top scorer at +300 with top online bookmakers.
Sri Lanka Top RunScorer
After scoring almost 200 runs so far in this World Cup, Kusal Mendis has been exceptional for Sri Lanka so far this tournament. Scoring runs at a high rate, he is able to push the field back and make the most of the scoring opportunities. With the openers struggling in this tournament so far, expect him to be in early. We’re backing him to be the top scorer for Sri Lanka in this one at +333 with top cricket bookmakers.
