Australia end day two at 7/405 in Brisbane Test against India
Australia piled on the runs on day two of the third Test against India in Brisbane but lost wickets late in the day to end on 7/405.
Steve Smith (101) and Travis Head (152) were the stars of the show on Sunday, putting on a 241-run partnership for the fourth wicket as both picked up centuries.
Australia began the day on 0/28 after a rain-affected opening day of the Brisbane Test which led to odds of a draw shortening across cricket bookmakers.
The opening session of the day was balanced, as Usman Khawaja (21), Nathan McSweeney (9) and Marnus Labuschagne (12) all failed to get going.
However, live betting odds swung heavily in the home side’s favour thanks to the attacking batting of Head.
Australia quickly pulled ahead, with Head striking at close to a run-a-ball, combining with Smith to take the hosts through to 3/316.
Late fire from Jasprit Bumrah eroded Australia’s advantage, however, with the Indian pacer removing both established batsmen and nabbing Mitchell Marsh (5) cheaply as well.
With another five-for to his name, Bumrah continued to threat as light faded in Brisbane, but it was Mohammad Siraj who struck next, removing Pat Cummins (20) after a rapid-fire half-century partnership with Alex Carey (45*).
Mitchell Starc (7*) came to the crease and saw out the remaining overs in the day, taking Australia through to 7/405 – their first 400-plus total in 10 Test innings.
BetOnline puts Australia at $2.62 to win with three days remaining, while India’s cricket betting odds are a much longer $15.
Odds of a draw are still short, however, sitting at $1.57 after day two with the top betting apps.
