AFL Round 10 betting preview, match odds & market update
The latest round of AFL action had it all, from close games to shock upsets to massive blowouts.
Online bookmakers and footy fanatics are predicting a less exciting week in round 10, but the 2021 AFL Premiership season has already been filled with surprises.
Here are all the matchups and latest odds for this week’s action, including a look at the outright market at Sportsbet.com.au.
AFL Round 10 betting odds & matchups
Brisbane Lions $1.43 vs Richmond Tigers $2.87
This Friday night blockbuster at the Gabba is easily the most important and anticipated match round 10 has to offer. Both clubs are sitting inside the top five in the outright betting, and we expect they will meet again in September. Coming off their massive 73-point victory over Gold Coast, the Brisbane Lions will start as favourites on their home deck.
Carlton Blues $1.30 vs Hawthorn Hawks $3.57
The Hawks last week became the first team to lose to North Melbourne in 2021, which sees the Blues start as short as $1.30 with AFL bookies. Harry McKay is leading the Coleman Medal race with 33 goals, but he has been nursing a sore shoulder for a few weeks and could be rested for this contest. The Blues still believe they can play finals this year, so they should be hungry enough this Saturday.
Geelong Cats $1.06 vs Gold Coast Suns $9.50
Stuart Dew’s Suns will make their way down to GMHBA Stadium to tackle the Geelong Cats this Saturday. The Suns were destroyed by the Lions last week, and Geelong will want to do a similar job on them here. Chris Scott’s men have jumped inside the top four after winning four of their last five contests. It would take an almighty performance from Gold Coast to win this week.
Adelaide Crows $5.80 vs Melbourne Demons $1.14
The Demons are going for 10 straight victories this week as they take on the Crows at Adelaide Oval. Matthew Nicks’ charges were very competitive on the road against the Eagles in round nine without Taylor Walker, meaning his return could scare the Demons this Saturday. We fully expect the $1.14 Dees will remain undefeated for another weekend.
Western Bulldogs $1.27 vs St Kilda Saints $3.80
After a terribly inaccurate game against the Cats last weekend, the Saints will look to bounce back against the premiership favourites. Knocking off the Power in Adelaide is a tough task, yet Luke Beveridge and the Bulldogs make it look easy in round nine. Tim English should return from concussion for the Bulldogs, while St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall will be sidelined for at least a month after undergoing surgery on his troublesome foot.
Fremantle Dockers $1.84 vs Sydney Swans $2
The Dockers will start as slight favourites for this Saturday night clash with the Sydney Swans. Justin Longmuir’s men sit one win outside the top eight despite a lengthy injury list, while the Swans could move into the top four with a win in the west. The Dockers have made Optus Stadium a tough trip for opposing sides this season, but the 6-3 Swans will be up to the task.
GWS Giants $2.05 vs West Coast Eagles $1.80
Leon Cameron and the Giants suffered another massive blow in last week’s slim loss to the Tigers, as Toby Greene fractured his shoulder and is expected to miss four weeks of footy. The stand-in captain was starring for the Giants this season, but his injury has opened the door for West Coast. Despite having to travel across Australia, the odds favour the Eagles for this critical clash.
Collingwood Magpies $3.56 vs Port Adelaide Power $1.30
The Magpies are attempting to rebuild on the go, which has not brought them much success this season. The Power must bounce back after their loss to the Bulldogs last week, and this is a perfect opportunity to do so. Nathan Buckley’s young squad will be in for a tough game this Sunday.
Essendon Bombers $1.31 vs North Melbourne Kangaroos $3.47
Can the Kangaroos make it two wins on the trot when they take on the Bombers at Marvel Stadium? Although it would be inspiring to see the Roos notch up two wins in two weeks, Essendon should get the job done on this occasion. The Dons were strong enough to beat an improving Fremantle side in round nine, so the Kangaroos should not be an issue.
AFL 2021 Premiership betting update
Four teams were tied at $5.50 this time last week, but the Demons and Bulldogs have separated themselves from the pack at $5. The Power are now level with the Cats at $7, but they both could shorten on the back of potential percentage-boosters this weekend. The Lions and Eagles made slight headway after their wins, while the gap between the top nine and bottom nine contenders continues to grow each week.
