Adelaide Crows v Brisbane Lions R9 match preview

The Crows will look to continue their revival when they host the Brisbane Lions at Adelaide Oval in the final game for round nine of the AFL season.

After a poor start to the year, the Adelaide Crows have won three of their last four AFL games, including a thumping 30-point win over archrivals Port Adelaide in round eight. The Crows out-tackled Port and played high-disposal football to work through the Power defence before finishing with unerring accuracy in front of goal.

Adelaide continue to fare well on the injury front and there are no omissions heading into this match. Luke Pedlar is not quite ready to return from a shoulder injury, but Sam Berry, Chris Burgess, and Lachlan Murphy have been brought in to bolster the Adelaide squad.

The Brisbane Lions were too strong for the Suns at the Gabba in round eight, snapping a two-match losing streak. They enjoyed complete aerial dominance, grabbing 148 marks to just 60 managed by Gold Coast. The Lions also comfortably won the inside 50 count but again kicked poorly in front of goal, suggesting their forward line is not yet back to its best.

Brisbane have been hit with a huge double blow with season-ending knee injuries to Lincoln McCarthy and Darcy Gardiner. Noah Answerth is also out due to concussion protocols. Callum Ah Chee is available for selection after recovering from a hamstring strain. Jarryd Lyons, Jaxon Prior, Darcy Fort, and Darragh Joyce come into the matchday squad, while the highly touted Shadeau Brain looks set for an AFL debut.

Adelaide v Brisbane betting strategy

With their recent improvement and lack of injuries, Adelaide should be too strong at home. Their forward line bristles with talent, and if the midfield can break even against the Lions, the Crows should get home and cover the 6.5-point line to return $1.90 with the top AFL bookmakers.

This might be a scrappy affair with plenty of congestion and pressure. Brisbane’s scoring average away from home has been inadequate all season, and it will be no surprise to see a low total at the final bell. Under 167.5 points is the tip at $1.90 on Unibet.

Adelaide small forward Ned McHenry does not find a lot of the ball, but he can finish cleanly when presented with a goalscoring opportunity. With names like Izak Rankin and Taylor Walker attracting much of the opposition’s attention, McHenry can find some space and use his ground-level skills to grab a crumbing goal at some stage for a $2 return on Neds.
