KFC Big Bash League 12 continues with a New Year’s rematch between the Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval. These two sides met on Monday at Blundstone Arena when the Hurricanes made light work of a big run chase and will be keen to back up that strong performance.
The Adelaide Strikers have lost four games in a row and will be desperate to get their season back on track in front of their home ground, however, they will be without superstar spinner Rashid Khan. A narrow loss to the Stars on New Year’s Eve could have been avoided if Marcus Stoinis was timed out, and the Strikers will be hoping for a less dramatic night in Adelaide.
The Hurricanes have been struggling to put two wins in a row together, as they have also struggled to win away from Tasmania. The Strikers are far too good a side to go five games in a row without a win, especially on their home track. The Strikers represent incredible value to get their season back on track and win in front of their home fans paying $2.05 with the online bookies.
The Strikers are the only BBL franchise to have two players in the top eight run scorers of the competition. Chris Lynn has been in incredible form in recent weeks, however, the keys to the Strikers success are in the hands of Matthew Short. One of the most destructive batsmen in the competition at his peak with his incredible height and length. Look for Short to lead the Strikers back to the winner’s circle as their leading run scorer paying $4.
Wes Agar will be one of the men tasked with the leadership of this Strikers attack in the absence of Khan. Agar’s height and strength gives him the ability to bowl a heavy ball and hit the wicket hard, extracting all types of bounce and natural variation from the wicket. He was expensive against the Hurricanes on Monday and will be sure to make amends by taking 2+ wickets paying $2.25.
KEY MATCH UP: BEN MCDERMOTT v MATTHEW SHORT
The top order matchup between these two opening batters will be an incredible sight. Both batters are incredibly different in size and stature, but very similar in their style. Both players have an incredible ability to rip opposition bowling attacks apart on their day, scoring at a strike rate above 200. Both batters are sublime boundary hitters and whoever is able to get off to a fast start for their respective side will play an enormous role in their side’s winning chances.
