Addo-Carr injury not as bad as feared after Bulldogs’ NRL victory

Josh Addo Carr injury

Friday night footy in the NRL led to a good old-fashioned thrashing for the Newcastle Knights, with the Canterbury Bulldogs putting on a clinic thanks to Josh-Addo Carr.

Having bagged two tries in the first half, the red-hot winger suffered a hamstring injury and was sidelined for the remainder of the match. News is that his injury isn’t as bad as first suspected, however.

Danika Mason, a sideline reporter for news channel Nine, revealed what she overheard Addo-Carr saying about the injury:

“I’ve done my hammy,” said Addo-Carr. “It is alright, I’ve done this one before, a little strain on the hamstring but I’m all good.”

Speaking to the media after the match, Addo-Carr shared his frustration at suffering the injury.

“It was a tough game. I put so much effort in from the start of the game and to fall short like that is upsetting,” the winger explained. “But, back on the horse and go to my rehab and get back with the boys.”

Bulldogs bag first away win to make top eight

With several players overlooked for State of Origin, last night was a statement performance for the Bulldogs.

Prior to this round, Canterbury had been unbeaten at home but not won on the road. That all changed, with a 32-2 trouncing of the Knights in Newcastle.

It wasn’t looking likely early, with the Bulldogs catching an early yellow card. However, they grabbed the first try through Addo-Carr. The winger backed up with another score less than a quarter of an hour later, giving his team a 10-2 lead at halftime.

With Addo-Carr pacing up and down on the sideline wearing an icepack, the Bulldogs continued their momentum in the second half. Four more tries were added, giving the visitors a 30-point margin at full-time.

“We put so much work and time to prepare, I feel like our best footy is in front of us,” declared Addo-Carr after the win, saying that the club’s aspirations in 2024 are to finish in “hopefully first place.”

The victory propels Canterbury into the top eight, bunny-hopping the Knights on the NRL table. Rugby league bookmakers now put the club at $2.87 to stay in playoff contention and qualify for their first post-season in eight years.

First place might be a bit of a stretch though, with bookies putting the Bulldogs at $501 to win the Minor Premiership this season.
