A Twitter wrap of the Blues’ thumping State of Origin Game 1 win
THE first game of the 2017 Origin series is done and dusted and there are plenty of talking points coming out of the match.
NSW smashed Queensland off the park, but the Maroon fans were quick to point out the unavailability of the star players.
Would it have mattered though?
Not content watching their own sport too, AFL fans felt the need to have their say on whether the defunct Origin concept should return to Aussie Rules.
We took a look through the Twittersphere to find out what social media had to say on the opening match and it is fair to say the Blues were the happier bunch following the win.
NSW fans revel in their stunning game one win
The Blues went into the opening game of Origin as warm favourites but few would have predicted they would blow the Maroons off the park in such emphatic fashion.
Before the fans got to enjoy the win however, they had to sit down the tedious and long-winded introductions which always rile footy fans up.

Even the emergency social media channels took time out of the seriousness of their profession to poke fun at the Queenslanders following the win.
ALERT! Tears everywhere ? ? ?#Origin pic.twitter.com/pdsF7LlMog

You would want to hope you close out the series because a rebuttal will come if Queensland can level.
Queensland fans attempted to have the last laugh.
NSW fans eh? Win one game & they act like they’ve won 10 out of the past 11 #Origin series ?

But there’s only so much you can say when you’ve just been crushed on national television.
Queensland selection – would JT or Slater made any difference?
The immediate response from Queenslanders was to point out two of their favourite sons in Thurston and Slater were not playing in game one.
Even the NSW fans were resigned to the fact that the duo would have made a big impact on Wednesday night.
I’m enjoying the win but cognisant of the fact JT and Slater will be picked. Proven game winners. Still can’t believe Slater wasn’t picked.

The Queensland fans were not so sure, however.
Slater wouldn’t have made a difference… But JT? …

It was a resounding win that the media are dubbing a changing of the guard, but is that premature?
While other Blue fans were calling it an end of an era, one Maroon fan was quick to point out who was missing.
Settle down… It’s only one game w/ JT, GI & Billy Slater out ? https://t.co/QHn9XdYFuL

It looks like game two will give the Queenslanders a chance to atone though, and JT and Slater are expected to be front and centre of the push.
As always, the Twitterverse gave their forecast on the player changes heading into June 21.
Get Slater back in, O’Niell tf out, Boyd to wing, Gagai to centre. JT back! Get Wallace into the front row as well.

We hope for their sake a reshuffle of positions can bring about a better performance.
Like clockwork – the AFL world is calling for the return of representative footy
It seems this time every year that the AFL community feels the need to weigh in on whether State of Origin should return to the Aussie Rules sphere.
Given AFL is the number one sport across four different states it makes it extremely hard to replicate the rivalry that NSW and Queensland produce, and one Twitter user thinks Aussie Rules has evolved past it.
The #AFL premiership has outgrown the need for #Origin . Time for AFL fans to move on.
— crowdiegal (@crowdiegal) June 1, 2017
Getting the concept off the ground in a feasible way would be an enormous challenge for the AFL if they wanted to bring it back, and South Australian proposed a novel concept to generate some interest.
Since I’ll never get #Origin as a South Aussie, and AFL Origin will never be a thing again, can we organise some tributes for Hunger Games?
— Alexander Jacobs (@ALcobsy) May 31, 2017
Let’s face it though, there is only one man capable of uniting the Australian public, former NFL, Fijian representative and all-round great guy Jarryd Hayne.
One footy fan believes he is the AFL’s only chance at bring back the concept.
I hear #JarrydHayne will be the key component behind getting the #AFL State of Origin going again. His latest dream… #StateOfOrigin

We cannot see it returning anytime soon however, but that did not stop the current day players from weighing in on it.
At the origin tonight…. @AFL, definitely need to bring rep footy back. This atmosphere is ridiculous! #Origin

We love Robbo’s enthusiasm, but we cannot see this happening anytime soon.
