A-League Men Matchweek 2 betting tips, top odds & value bets
The 2021/22 A-League Men campaign kicked off in superb fashion last weekend, and Matchweek 2 looks to have plenty of enticing matchups. BettingSite.com.au brings you the best bets for this week’s action.
Western United v Perth Glory
Matchweek 2 gets underway when Perth Glory (0-1-0) travel to AAMI Park to take on Western United (0-0-1) on Friday night. With both teams struggling to an extent in Matchweek 1, walking away with three points will be crucial for early-season momentum. Despite only one goal being scored between these two sides in their first matches, we expect a high-scoring affair.
Perth have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last seven A-League matches, and with United’s struggles in defence last year, we expect to see three or four goals scored on Friday night. No spoils in finding the $1.74 for over 2.5 goals to salute, but it looks to be one of the better plays this weekend.
Over 2.5 total goals
Wellington Phoenix v Central Coast Mariners
Wellington Phoenix (0-1-0) had to settle for a 1-1 draw last weekend against Macarthur FC, despite holding a 1-0 lead at half-time thanks to a first-half penalty from Gary Hooper. From that point onwards, though, they looked to be struggling against last year’s semi-finalists, and in some regards were lucky to walk away with a point.

The Central Coast Mariners (1-0-0), on the other hand, were involved in arguably the match of the weekend when defeating the Newcastle Jets 2-1 in a thrilling F3 Derby. Two goals in seven minutes to Josh Nisbet (50’) and Jacob Farrell (57’) gave the Mariners a 2-0 lead, and despite conceding in the 77th minute, they showed plenty of resilience to grip on. Although they are outsiders in this clash, we expect the Mariners to build on that first-up win and remain undefeated.
Central Coast Mariners to win
Adelaide United v Melbourne City
Fresh off a 1-1 draw with Perth, Adelaide United (0-1-0) are set to host reigning champions Melbourne City (1-0-0) on Saturday in what is arguably the marquee matchup of Matchweek 2. City did what they needed to do on opening night when disposing of Brisbane Roar 2-1, and they never looked like getting beaten.
Despite needing to travel across the border to Adelaide, a side featuring the attacking trio of Andrew Nabbout, Jamie Maclaren and Matthew Leckie is sure to give this United defence plenty of headaches. With all three of the Socceroo attackers failing to hit the scoresheet in Matchweek 1, we will not be surprised if two of the three find the back of the net against an Adelaide outfit known for conceding goals.
Melbourne City to win
