A-League, BBL and racing tips for the January 6-8 weekend multi
THE first weekend multi of the year sees all the betting in Australia, which is no surprise given the amount of sport we have going on down under.
The Big Bash continues to be a big hit, the A-League is starting to enter the business end of the season and the horse racing in Australia is top quality all-year round.
This weekend we have put together a well-rounded multi which will provide punters a nice return to help alleviate those battling the post-Christmas blues.
All odds for this weekend were provided by Sportsbet.com.au, which is offering prospective clients a magnificent inducement to sign up.
New customers can get their first bet at Sportsbet matched up to the value of $501.
Selections for the January 6-8 weekend multi:
Catchy to win the Peter Siggins Plate ($1.85)
Besart Berisha to score at anytime against Adelaide United ($2.63)
Sydney FC to beat Central Coast Mariners ($1.25)
Hobart Hurricanes to beat the Sydney Thunder ($1.77)
Combined multi value: $10.76 @ Sportsbet.com.au
Peter Siggins Plate
Saturday, January 7 from 12.30 pm AEDST Caulfield racecourse, Melbourne
An interesting race opens the card at Caulfield and we are focused on a two-year-old superstar in the making.
Catchy made an amazing debut last December and will be racing for just the second time in its career, but there is already huge buzz around what this filly can achieve.
A good showing on Saturday will see Catchy potentially entering the Blue Diamond Stakes, which means the pressure will be on to perform, but there is no reason to think the filly will not make it two-from-two.
Catchy to win – $1.85
Adelaide United vs. Melbourne Victory
Saturday, January 7 from 7.50 pm AEDST, Coopers Stadium, Adelaide
The original big rivalry of the A-League is the second leg of our multi as the Victory travel west to face the Reds in Adelaide.
The Victory are on fire right now, and it’s on the back of their super-striker Besart Berisha.
The league’s most prolific scorer of all-time has scored in three of the last four games the Victory has played in.
Berisha is $2.63 at Sportsbet.com.au to score at any time on Saturday night and we think those odds are well over the top for the talisman, which means we are happy to invest.
Besart Berisha to score at anytime – $2.63
Central Coast Mariners vs. Sydney FC
Sunday, January 8 from 5 pm AEDST, Central Coast Stadium, Gosford
The unbeaten Sydney FC face off against the second from the bottom Central Coast Mariners in the third leg of our weekend multi.
Sydney is on a three game winning streak which has seen them score ten goals from the last three matches.
The Mariners have failed to win in their last five matches, and have only taken one point from that period.
Sydney FC have dominated their Sunday opponents over the years, dropping points just once over the last two years.
The Sky Blues should do it easily for us to get us into the final leg of our multi.
Sydney FC to win – $1.25
Hobart Hurricanes vs. Sydney Thunder
Sunday, January 8 from 7.10 pm AEDST, Blundstone Arena, Hobart
The Hobart Hurricanes host the Sydney Thunder in the final leg of our multi, and we are favouring the home side to keep their good form rolling.
The Hurricanes hammered the Strikers on Monday night by eight wickets. The ‘canes ran down the Adelaide total easily to record their third win from four matches.
The Thunder upset the Stars to keep their season on track after several disappointing performances.
The problem for the Thunder is they will need to find replacements for Eoin Morgan (international duty) and potentially Andre Russell, who injured his hamstring in the victory over the Stars.
Hobart are one of the teams to beat in BBL|06 while the Thunder seem to be making up the numbers to an extent. The Hurricanes should be able to roll over the men in green to give us a winning return on our multi.
Hobart Hurricanes to win – $1.77
