2019 NRL Round 9 betting preview – Sea Eagles vs Broncos
Manly Sea Eagles – $2.40 at Sportsbet
Brisbane Broncos – $1.60 at Ladbrokes
The Manly Sea Eagles have cause to feel hard done by.
With Suncorp Stadium playing host to every NRL game this week, Des Hasler’s men are the unlucky ones lumped with a ‘home’ fixture against the Brisbane Broncos.
They have also had to shuffle the deck to cover Lachlan Croker and Addin Fonua-Blake, both out injured.
But the Sea Eagles are flying and must fancy their chances against a Brisbane side in crisis mode.
The preseason talk of a premiership push has rather died down at Red Hill after last week’s 38-6 mauling by South Sydney.
Wayne Bennett got his revenge in a big way and Anthony Seibold has swung the axe as a result.
Jamayne Isaako and James Roberts are out, with Gehamat Shibasaki and Kotoni Staggs named to start in the back half.
Thomas Flegler replaces the benched Tevita Pangai Jr at lock, while Jake Turpin comes in for the injured Andrew McCullough.
Sea Eagles vs Broncos first tryscorer tips
Jorge Taufua – If he gets any kind of service from Manly’s second-string playmakers, Taufua could cause all sorts of problems for Brisbane’s battling defence. He has three tries from seven appearances.
Corey Oates – His team is struggling, but Oates continues to deliver the goods where it counts for punters. He leads the league for line breaks (eight) and has scored in all but two games this season.
Key stats and betting trends
- Manly Warringah have won five of their last six games
- The Sea Eagles have a +74 point differential over Brisbane
- The Broncos are the worst team in the league for ineffective tackles (157)
- They are also in the bottom four on total points conceded (185)
Manly vs Brisbane bet predictions
The bizarre decision to play an entire round at Suncorp Stadium should work in Brisbane’s favour.
The question is whether the Broncos are good enough to make anything of such an obvious advantage.
They were abysmal against the Bunnies and will have to do something remarkable to reach the finals from here.
Manly, on the other hand, are doing great things with limited resources and look a monty to cover the line.
Manly Sea Eagles +4.5 – $1.91 at Bet365
