Collingwood Magpies: Won against the Bulldogs, 78-64
Easter Thursday football has never been this exciting as two in-form sides meet in what will be the biggest AFL game the Gabba has hosted in a decade.
The 3-1 Brisbane Lions have exceeded expectations this season and have looked fantastic. They are no longer the bottom dweller and easy beat of the league.
The Collingwood Magpies have only won two matches this year, but their losses have been to the Cats and Eagles, who both sit inside the top four.
When the Magpies and Lions clashed twice last season, both matches were fast-paced and interesting to watch.
At the Gabba, the Pies ran away with the victory thanks to a last-minute goal that extended their one-point margin, winning the match by seven points.
Despite a hot start to the season, the Lions will need to improve this week after being embarrassed by the Bombers.
Collingwood were able to use a fourth-quarter burst to outlast the Western Bulldogs, but lost 200-gamer Chris Mayne, who suffered a back injury which will now rule him out for at least five weeks.
Dayne Beams will come back into the Pies line-up to challenge his old side after missing round 4 with a migraine.
Both teams need a victory and will provide a great contest whilst looking for one.
Brisbane Lions vs Collingwood Magpies Round 5 – Goal Scorer Tips
Jaidyn Stephenson to kick 2 Goals: – Is there a bonus available for this bet?
The 2018 Rising Star made his best case for the medal last season in his two games against the Lions. In the first match he tallied over 20 touches and kicked two crucial goals, while in the return bout he was just as classy with 25 disposals and another pair of majors. As a young Lions supporter, Stephenson now plays his best footy against the club he once barracked for.
Lincoln McCarthy to kick 2 Goals:
Going under the radar early in his move to the Lions, the former Cat has stepped into a new class. McCarthy is a small forward that loves to compete in the air. He and Collingwood’s Jamie Elliott play a similar role and their battle at either end of the ground could prove crucial. He will kick a pair of goals against the Pies’ backline, which has had issues with small forwards.
Brisbane Lions vs Collingwood Magpies Round 5 – Player Disposal Tips
Jack Crisp to get 25 Disposals @ $2.10
As a former Lion, Jack Crisp is another player that loves to challenge Brisbane. Since coming to Collingwood in 2014 Crisp has not missed a single senior game for the Magpies and has turned into an elite runner in the back half. Expect Crisp to have a big game at his old home ground.
Lachie Neale to get under 30 Disposals
No player in the entire AFL has found the footy as much as Lachie Neale after four rounds. Neale has emerged as an early Brownlow favourite at $4.75 with an incredible average of 38.8 disposals per match, Neale is well ahead of the competition early. His disposal form will not continue in this match as his bogey side happens to be the Magpies, who he only averages 22 disposals against from seven different matches. If Levi Greenwood comes in to tag Neale, he will suffer even more and get barely 25 disposals for the night.
Brisbane Lions vs Collingwood Magpies Round 5 – Total Match Goals Tip
Total Goals Over 24.5 @ $1.78:
One trend from recent match-ups is the high-scoring goal fest. The first clash in 2018 saw 37 goals kicked, a massive total, while the second game had 25, where the Magpies kicked 20 behinds. The highest scoring team in the league is the Lions with an average of 14 per match. If both sides kick straight, the total will easily exceed 24.
Lions vs. Magpies betting predictions
Match Result: Collingwood Magpies to win @ $1.55
Line Betting: Collingwood Magpies -9.5 @ $1.90 – Which bookie offers the best Collingwood odds?
The Magpies need to win this match in order to stay within the top four frame, but the win won’t come easy as the Lions are clearly a good side. With Jordan de Goey and Jaidyn Stephenson causing problems up forward, the Pies will win the match.
