The Kangaroos will take on the Bombers under the bright lights of Marvel Stadium in what has become a fascinating Good Friday match-up.
Both of these teams started their 2019 AFL campaigns off slowly, but have gathered steam in recent weeks.
North Melbourne notched its first win against Adelaide last week, while Essendon dominated an in-form Lions outfit to even their ledger at 2-2 after four games.
Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti comes into this game as the player to watch, having kicked a career-best seven goals against a hapless Brisbane defence last week.
After campaigning long and hard to host games on Good Friday, which has long been a gap on the AFL schedule due to religious reasons, North Melbourne needs to make its mark on the fixture and desperately needs a win here to keep their finals dreams alive.
They’ll be looking for improved form from their key forward Ben Brown, who has a good history of delivering the goods against the Bombers.
Here’s some tips for the first of two Good Friday matches.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Essendon Bombers Round 5 – Player Disposal Tips
Aaron Hall to get 25 Disposals @ $4.20 – Is there a bonus available for this bet?
From his six games against the Dons, Hall averages 26 disposals, three more than any other opponent. The Kangaroos recruit is one of many in the North Melbourne engine room that needs to lift his game — no side offers a better opportunity for a big game than Essendon.
Zach Merrett to get 30 Disposals @ $2.20
Sometimes you have to back the player with the best form heading into the match, and without a doubt that would be Merrett. After racking up the footy a lazy 35 times against the Lions, Merrett is looking to get another massive total this week. With Ben Jacobs, the North Melbourne tagger, still missing with a neck injury, Merrett is free to roam the field.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Essendon Bombers Round 5 – Total Goals and Behinds Tips
Total Goals Over 25.5 @ $1.87
Kicking terribly last week was the main issue for the Roos, but they still won the match. On the other hand, Essendon were fantastic in front of goal and won by a big margin. If the Roos and Dons both kick accurately under the roof, the final goals tally will easily exceed 25.5.
Total Behinds under 23.5 @ $1.87
If we’re backing more than 23 goals, it’s just logic the behinds will be lower. The roof at Marvel Stadium should be shut which allows for easier conditions in front of goals, as there are fewer external forces to ruin the Roos’ accuracy.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs Essendon Bombers Round 5 – First Team to Tip
First Team to 50 Points – Essendon Bombers @ $1.62
They played with break-neck pace last week and left the Lions wondering what hit them, which will be the same technique they use against the Roos. North Melbourne doesn’t have enough quality defenders to stop Fantasia and McDonald-Tipungwuti, who will both get the Bombers off to a good start.
Kangaroos vs Bombers betting predictions
Match Result: Essendon Bombers to Win @ $1.55
Line Betting: Essendon Bomber -9.5 @ $1.90 – Which bookie offers the best Essendon odds?
The line is much lower than anticipated and the Bombers are going to make it look silly. The Kangaroos found it difficult to defeat a very poor Adelaide at Marvel last week, while the Bombers looked sharp and have even more improvement left to come.
