Zoustyle to resume in Maurice McCarten

Brisbane sprinter Zoustyle will have a barrier trial ahead of his return to racing in Sydney.

Brisbane sprinter Zoustyle is likely to have only one trial before heading south for a Sydney campaign.

Zoustyle missed the Brisbane summer carnival after a disrupted southern states spring when he ran well without winning.

After finishing less than five lengths last in a star-studded Concorde Stakes in Sydney, Zoustyle ran second in the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield before a fourth in the Listed Caulfield Village Stakes at his most recent start on October 16.

Trainer Tony Gollan said Zoustyle had bloomed during his summer spell.

“I will probably trial him at Doomben on Tuesday but failing that he can trial on the Eagle Farm A grass the following week,” Gollan said.

“He will really only need the one trial before heading south. I am keen to get him to Sydney early so he can settle in.

“At this stage his first start in Sydney will be in the Group Three Maurice McCarten Stakes at Rosehill on March 14.

“It is an 1100-metre race which usually doesn’t attract the really top flight horses. So it gives us a chance to work him through the grades this time.”

Zoustyle is entered for the Group One TJ Smith at Randwick on April 4 but will need to be at his best to run.

The gelding has won six of his nine starts and is unbeaten in Brisbane.

Gollan is undecided who will ride Zoustyle in his comeback but indicated it could be a Sydney jockey.
