Young Australian Jack Doohan secures Formula 1 Alpine contract

Jack Doohan joins Alpine team
Jack Doohan is on the brink of making history as the 19th Australian to compete in Formula 1.

The anticipation is high as he joins Oscar Piastri on the grid for the 2025 season, potentially creating a trio of drivers in the sport depending on Ricciardo’s contract extension.

Hailing from a family with racing ties, including his father Mick Doohan, a five-time MotoGP world champion, Jack has been confirmed as an Alpine driver for 2025 taking over Esteban Ocon’s seat.

The 21-year-old showcased his talent by finishing third overall in Formula 2 last year and securing three race victories.

Jack Doohan expressed his happiness in securing a full-time race seat with BWT Alpine F1 Team for 2025, and conveyed his gratitude for the trust and belief shown by the team’s senior management.

This promotion is not only significant for Jack but also serves as a milestone for the Alpine Academy, marking him as their first graduate to earn a race seat with the team.

Team principal Oliver Oakes praised Jack’s abilities and dedication, emphasising his talent and work ethic.

  • Despite this development, challenges lie ahead for Jack in the season.

Alpine has faced difficulties this year, currently sitting in eighth place in the Constructors Championship with only 11 points.

Both Gasly and Ocon have struggled to deliver, with their best result being ninth place for the 2024 season.

Doohan will be set to represent Australia with McLaren racer Oscar Piastri.

Meanwhile, there is still uncertainty surrounding the future of veteran driver Daniel Ricciardo, whose contract with VCARB Red Bulls team is ending soon.

Australia might witness a new era in motorsport, with Doohan, Piastri and possibly Ricciardo all flying the flag for their nation in top tier racing.
