Petr Yan (17-5-0) has struggled for consistency since losing the bantamweight crown to Aljamain Sterling in 2021. The Russian has lost decision results to Sterling in the rematch, Sean O’Malley, and Merab Dvalishvili. The only bright spots during this period were close wins over Corey Sandhagen and Song Yadong. It is therefore surprising to see Yan priced so short with leading UFC bookies.
Early in his career, Yan was more eager to engage and applied relentless pressure throughout his bouts. He now appears somewhat tentative and less able to dominate his opponents. The 31-year-old should enjoy a slight striking advantage in this matchup but might struggle if the fight is taken to the mat, where his skills are less effective.
Deiveson Figueiredo (24-3-1) has impressed since moving to bantamweight from flyweight in 2023, recording three straight victories over Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt, and Marlon Vera. The former flyweight champ struggled to make weight at 125 pounds, costing him several close title fights against longtime rival Brandon Moreno, and appears much more comfortable since making the transition.
Figueiredo moves well on the feet and boasts an elite ground game that has translated into nine professional wins via submission. A win here would confirm his potential as a genuine contender in the competitive division. The Brazilian will need to elude the power strikes of his opponent, but otherwise he appears well placed to produce an upset in Macao.
Yan v Figueiredo betting strategy
Top UFC betting sites have installed Yan at a perplexingly short price for this bout. He appears to have slipped since losing the five-round war to O’Malley, both physically and mentally. On the other hand, Figueiredo looks rejuvenated by the change in weight class and is showing at generous odds.
If the underdog can land takedowns in the early rounds, he should be able to drain Yan’s endurance and finish the stronger athlete. If you are hunting extra value, back Figueiredo to win via submission; otherwise, take him to win straight-up at nice odds.
