Wisdom Of Water secures Millions 2YO berth
Wisdom Of Water has forced his way into the Magic Millions 2YO Classic field after a Gold Coast win.
Co-trainer Toby Edmonds and jockey Robbie Fradd believe Wisdom Of Water can put aside his naughty-boy habits and win next week’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
Wisdom Of Water ($10) lived up to the huge early wraps on him and earned a Magic Millions Classic start with his win in the $125,000 Gold Nugget (1100m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
He swept to the lead at the 200m and then held off Godolphin horse Conceited ($3.40) who finished fast.
The Edmonds stable’s runner The Drinks Cart ($10) was third but failed to qualify for the Millions
Edmonds, who trains in partnership with his son Trent, won the other big two year old on Saturday when Queen Kay took the Gold Pearl.
Queen Kay is not a Magic Millions horse but Wisdom Of Water, a $70,000 buy as a yearling, is headed to the $2 million Classic with all guns blazing.
Wisdom Of Water was rated Queensland’s potential top two-year-old when trialling brilliantly but after showing pace he dropped out to finish fourth at his only start.
He was sent for a short break and the stable rolled the dice when they scratched Wisdom Of Water on Wednesday at Doomben to run on Saturday.
“He would have won on Wednesday but he wouldn’t have got enough prize money for the Millions,” Edmonds said.
Edmonds and Fradd were both upbeat about Wisdom after his win on Saturday.
“He has done a really good job because he had three weeks off and had to then come back in quickly,” Edmonds said.
“He is a naughty boy. He is a colt and he knows he is a colt and he tries to stand over you.
“Provided he pulls up well he will run in the Millions and be hard to beat.”
Godolphin trainer James Cummings said provided Conceited pulled up well would press on to the Millions next week.
He pointed out Conceited had conceded weight to all runners and would meet them at set weights next week.
