William Buick returns from injury at Ascot

Godolphin jockey William Buick will make his return from an eight-week injury break at Ascot.

He will ride the Charlie Appleby-trained Blue Point, favourite for Saturday’s Group Three John Guest Bengough Stakes at Ascot.

Buick has been has been out of action since falling from Permian in the Secretariat Stakes in America in early August and suffering a compression of his T12 vertebra.

Although he did not need surgery, Buick had to give the injury time to heal before he returned to riding work in Newmarket last week and he has now been passed fit for a competitive comeback this weekend.

“It’s great to have William back,” Appleby said.

“He started riding out last week and he’s been itching to get back. He’s just been waiting for the green light from the doctor.

“We’re in a very privileged position here at Godolphin to have been able to call on people like James Doyle, who has ridden loads of winners for us in the last few weeks.

“It’s just the way it’s worked out that Blue Point is William’s first ride back and it’s appropriate given he knows the horse so well.

“There are still a good six weeks of the season left yet and there’s plenty of international racing coming up, so I’m sure we’ll be keeping both William and James busy.”
