The NBL action continues this Friday night with a blockbuster match at RAC Arena between the Perth Wildcats and Sydney Kings. The Wildcats view this as a must-win game with both Melbourne sides in reach of a spot in the play-in tournament, with the Wildcats scheduled to have one more match against the Kings before the season ends.
Perth not only have the Kings twice in their last six matches, but they also face the JackJumpers and Taipans, sides placed higher than them on the table. The Kings, on the other hand, are well clear of the competition at the top of the ladder and looking for another win against the hosts on the road.
The Wildcats have lost four of their last five against the Kings, including a loss at RAC Arena. The Wildcats surprised many when they beat the Breakers two games back in Perth, but the Kings are a completely different beast. Look for Sydney to get another win on the road against the Wildcats ($1.39).
Both sides are stacked with some of the best talent in the NBL, including Bryce Cotton, Corey Webster, Xavier Cooks, Derrick Walton Jr and Dejan Vasiljevic. With the Kings looking to continue dominating this competition, and the Wildcats fighting to keep their finals hopes alive, this should be an entertaining, high-scoring match that goes over the 183.5 points total.
The Kings have been phenomenal this season having recently set the record for the biggest winning margin — a 116-67 trashing of the Bullets. The Kings have the most balanced, well-rounded side in the NBL and have won seven of their last eight matches. They are a side that can pour the points on at a moment’s notice, led by Cooks, Walton and Vasiljevic. Look for the Kings to record the highest-scoring quarter of the match.
Key matchup: Bryce Cotton v Derrick Walton Jr
The battle in the back court between these two guards will again be the highlight of the match. Bryce Cotton will face the decision of whether to carry the Wildcats on his back entirely or play a more traditional point guard role and become more of a distributor. This role is like that of what Walton plays for the Kings, especially with the development of Cooks and Vasiljevic throughout the season. Cotton will need to make plenty of correct calls at the right times if he is to lead the Wildcats past the Kings on Friday night.
