Whypeeo out to increase bank for Millions

Toby Edmonds is looking to three-year-old Whypeeo to build a war chest for better races when he returns to Doomben.

Whypeeo clocked an exceptional 1min02.31secs when he won a three-year-old at the Gold Coast over 1100m two weeks ago.

It was a class record and just a touch outside the course record held by top sprinter Husson Eagle.

The Doomben course record for the slightly longer 1110m distance is 1min03.9secs and the track will be lightning fast again on Saturday.

Trainer Toby Edmonds said he wasn’t expecting Whypeeo to get anywhere near the Doomben record but insists the gelding will run well.

“The Gold Coast can throw up very fast times when the track is dry and there is a strong wind as was the case at Whypeeo’s last start,” Edmonds said.’

“But he is a smart horse and we are looking at the Magic Millions carnival in January with him.”

Edmonds said Whypeeo had won $58,000 in prize money but a win on Saturday would push him to around the $100,000 mark which would help getting into the Millions races.
