White Moss red-hot in G2 Sapphire Stakes

White Moss.
White Moss has added to her black-type record with a gritty win in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes.

White Moss has claimed her second Group Two win this preparation and jockey Kathy O’Hara is hoping the mare can go to the next level.

With Quilista setting a strong tempo in Saturday’s Sapphire Stakes, O’Hara was content to stalk the speed on White Moss and the Jason Coyle-trained mare responded when asked to give chase in the straight.

Backed late to start $20, she scored by three quarters of a length over Irithea ($16) with Winter Bride ($7) the same margin away third.

O’Hara won the Millie Fox Stakes aboard White Moss two starts ago and said the mare was all heart.

“I know when she gets to the front she knows her job isn’t not done and she’ll keep finding when you keep asking.

“The more you ask, the more she’ll give.

“She’s had two Group Two victories this preparation, she’s not far off the top grade so hopefully she’ll get there soon.”

Coyle credited the owners of White Moss for convincing him to pull the right rein and run the mare in the Sapphire Stakes rather than the Group One Coolmore Legacy Stakes earlier on the program.

He said the mare could stay in work and be aimed at the Godolphin Crown at Hawkesbury in two weeks and possibly some races over the winter carnival in Brisbane.
