Which bookmakers are offering the best odds on Winx?

Winx returns
SATURDAY marks the return to racing of everyone’s favourite mare, Winx.

Given the Chris Waller-trained superstar is $1.16 across the board at all bookmakers, is it worth putting your hard-earned on the line?

Of course it is – you just have to take advantage of the bookmakers that are willing to look after their clients.

Ladbrokes.com.au is offering a huge -125 on Winx to win the Apollo Stakes on Saturday. Stakes are capped at $25 wagers and will be returned to clients if the Waller runner is scratched prior to the race.

Do you think Saturday will be Chris Waller’s day in the Apollo Stakes? Sportsbet.com.au has the market you’re looking for.

Waller takes in Preferment, Libran and Endless Drama into the group two race alongside Winx, and Sportsbet is offering $34 on Winx to win the Apollo Stakes and any of the trainer’s three remaining runners to round out the placings.

Hot conditions should suit Winx ‘nicely’ – Waller

Sweltering conditions are expected in Sydney on Saturday, which should dry out the Randwick track, which was impacted by torrential rain earlier in the week.

Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said the 40 degree heat that is expected on Saturday could play havoc, but there is no plan to call off the meet.

“As this stage the plan is to go ahead and race, but we need to be cognisant of the forecast,” Van Gestel said.

“We are aware of the weather predictions and at the very minimum our level two (heat) policy will be invoked at Randwick (Saturday).

“This means the pre-race parades will be shortened, we will ensure there is sufficient water sprays available and additional veterinarians will be on call.

“Unfortunately, the Theatre of the Horse can get very hot on occasions so we will monitor that.

“We will try to minimise the impact of the hot weather as much as possible.’’

For Chris Waller however, the blistering conditions will play precisely into his hands.

If there is one chink in the all-conquering Winx’s armour it is a heavier track. The mare has one win from one start on a heavy rated track but has finished second and outside the placings across four starts on a soft track.

The champion trainer believes the wonder-mare will have a track to suit her come Saturday.

“They are saying that it will dry out nicely. We had a lot of rain in the early part of the week,” Waller told RSN’s Racing Ahead.

“It was basically a downpour, not like days of rain in a row. A solid 100mm in about an hour or two and therefore it was saturated but we have had really good drying since then, today and tomorrow and it is going to be a very hot so I say we will be racing on a track on the better side of soft.”

Sportsbet open ‘without Winx’ market for Apollo Stakes

It is set to be a walk in the park for Winx on Saturday, which has prompted the opportunistic team at Sportsbet.com.au to open a ‘Without Winx’ market for the Group Two Apollo Stakes at Randwick.

Last year’s Cox Plate runner-up Hartnell heads the market at the $1.95 quote, while another Waller runner in Endless Drama is another main elect in the market at the $7.50 price.
