Wests Tigers demand accountability with breach notices to players

Wests Tigers send breach notices to five players

The Wests Tigers have sent breach notices to five players who failed to meet fitness standards outlined in their contracts, signalling a strict approach to discipline as the club prepares for the 2025 NRL season.

The decision follows an agreement reached during end-of-season exit interviews, where players committed to meeting heightened fitness protocols after being wooden spooners for the last three years.

The breach notices underscore head coach Benji Marshall’s commitment to instilling a culture of accountability as he embarks on his second season in charge.

Reports indicate that players who repeatedly fail to meet the new standards risk contract termination, reflecting a strong stance by both Marshall and CEO Shane Richardson in their push to rebuild the club.

Marshall’s debut season as head coach was marked by the introduction of 12 new players, the highest number of debuts by any NRL team in 2024, highlighting the team’s youth and potential.

Despite the wooden spoon finish, Marshall remains focused on long-term success, with Richardson openly backing his high standards for both veteran players and newcomers.

The Tigers’ 2025 plans also include integrating four-time premiership winner Jarome Luai, formerly from the Penrith Panthers.

Luai joins the team next month on a five-year deal reportedly worth $6 million.

Luai’s arrival, alongside recent signings like Sunia Turuva, Royce Hunt, and Jack Bird and rumours swirling about signing Terell May from the Sydney Roosters, brings renewed optimism to a team looking to re-establish itself as a competitive force.

With a revamped roster and intensified expectations for player commitment, the Tigers aim to turn a new page in 2025 under Marshall’s leadership and Richardson’s full support.

Currently, a $41 hope to win the 2025 Premiership with the leading NRL bookmakers.
