Wests Tigers add Nathan Brown to star-studded forward pack
The Wests Tigers have continued their incredible recruitment drive ahead of the 2023 NRL season by reportedly signing Parramatta Eels lock Nathan Brown with immediate effect.
Brown is joining several signings for the Tigers that are aiming to lift the club back to the NRL Finals for the first time in over a decade.
Brown made his NRL debut for the Tigers almost ten years ago in 2013 against the St George Illawarra Dragons, but due to salary cap restraints, was barred from playing any further games in the season.
Brown was an integral part of the Eels team for the 2021 season where he made 24 appearances for the club before being knocked out in the second week of the finals by eventual premiers the Penrith Panthers.
Brown took no part in the regular season for the Eels in the 2022 season following his demotion to the NSW Cup side where he made six appearances and averaged just under 130m per game.
This was before Brown was surprisingly elevated to the Eels bench for the 2022 Grand Final where he played 26 minutes, ran for 59 metres, and made 16 tackles.
Brown’s highlight of the 2022 year was arguably during the 2022 Rugby League World Cup where he represented Italy and started in the lock role.
Brown was praised for the role he played for Italy on popular podcasts the ‘Rugby League Guru’ and ‘Bloke in a Bar’ where he was likened to the roles Isaah Yeo and Victor Radley from the Panthers and Roosters respectively.
Brown is joining a Tigers forward pack littered with new signings including former team mate Isaiah Papali’i as well as Api Koroisau, David Klemmer, and English superstar John Bateman.
Brown will also be joining Alex Twal, Joe Ofahengue and Stefano Utoikamanu in the forwards as a side that could be one of the most damaging in the NRL.
The Tigers have built an enormous forward pack and appear to be setting the side up for middle third success to allow the spine of Luke Brooks, Adam Doueihi and Daine Laurie to attack off the back of the platform laid in the middle.
