Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide match preview
The Western Bulldogs host Port Adelaide as the 2025 AFL Premiership season heads to Ballarat this Saturday afternoon for Round 8.
In a clash between two in-form sides, the Dogs enter as favourites at $1.38 with leading AFL bookmakers. Port offer a value selection at $3.20, while the line is set at 18.5 points.
Last Saturday, the Bulldogs put together their best performance of the season, beating the GWS Giants by 32 points in Canberra. After a tight first half, the visitors kicked five unanswered goals in the third term to blow out the game.
Luke Beveridge’s side have now won two in a row and sit eighth on the ladder. Heading to Ballarat, they should be confident of a result, as they have won four of their last five at the venue.
Port Adelaide secured their third straight win last Saturday at home, holding off a fast-finishing North Melbourne by nine points. After a dominant first term, Ken Hinkley’s side looked uneasy throughout the rest of the game but got the job done. Star midfield trio Connor Rozee (27 disposals, one goal), Jason Horne-Francis (27 disposals, one goal) and Zak Butters (27 disposals) were all standouts.
Despite entering this clash in great form, major concerns remain around Port Adelaide’s ability to close out games. Port have lost the last quarter in each of their last five games, something which may hold them back in this clash.
Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide team news
The Bulldogs look set to regain 2024 All-Australian Adam Treloar for his first game of the season after he recovered from a calf issue. Elsewhere, key defender Liam Jones is in the mix after being dropped to the VFL last week, but expect the team to remain relatively settled.
Port Adelaide will need to make at least one change, with defender Josh Sinn ruled out due to concussion. Veteran onballer Travis Boak is one option, while defensive pair Ryan Burton and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher will also both be pushing for a return from their respective injuries.
Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide prediction
Although Port enter this game on a winning streak, their last two performances haven’t been especially convincing. On the other hand, the Dogs have put together a pair of statement wins, while they love to play at their second home. Seven of the last nine matches at this venue have gone under the total points line, so back the Bulldogs to win by 39 or less at $2.10 with BlondeBet.
Despite being one of the quieter moves of the off-season, Western Bulldogs midfielder Matthew Kennedy has arguably become the most impactful players in 2025. He has collected over 20 disposals in every game this season, including over 25 in three of the last four. Back the ex-Blue to continue his good form with 25 or more disposals at $2.20 with Unibet.
Making a move to half-back over the last three weeks, Port Adelaide captain Connor Rozee has been a big part of the team’s resurgence in form. He is finding plenty of footy, but more importantly, Rozee is also finding the goals, kicking four majors in that time. At $2.50 with Bet365, back the skipper to add to his goal tally.
