Round 21: Western Bulldogs v Melbourne AFL preview
Kicking off round 21 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season, the Western Bulldogs will be looking to cement their spot in the top eight as they host Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Friday night.
At $1.30 with PlayUp, the Dogs enter this clash as clear favourites. The Demons are big outsiders at $3.60 with Bet365, while the line is set at 21.5 points.
Last Sunday, the Bulldogs put together one of the most impressive performances of the season, beating the top-placed Sydney Swans by 39 points at the SCG. Taking a 34-point lead into quarter time, it was all one-way traffic as Luke Beveridge’s men played at their dominant best. Midfielder Adam Treloar led the way with 40 disposals, while young key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan booted four goals.
With consecutive away wins in Geelong and Sydney, the Dogs have now won five of their last six matches. Sitting in eighth spot, top AFL bookmakers have wound them into $1.25 to play finals.
After getting through the match against the Swans unscathed, don’t expect many changes this week as the Dogs stick with a winning formula.
Melbourne suffered their second consecutive defeat last Saturday, going down to the GWS Giants by two points at the MCG. Despite leading for most of the game, the Demons conceded five straight goals late in the game and couldn’t recover.
With just two wins from their past five matches, the Demons now sit in 11th — a game and percentage outside the top eight. With just four rounds to go, top Australian bookmakers are giving Melbourne $7 odds to make the finals.
There are no forced changes for the Dees this week, but rookie Koltyn Tholstrup will be in the mix as he returns from concussion protocols.

Bulldogs v Demons R21 betting strategy
Given their performances over the past six weeks, the Bulldogs should be far too good for the Demons. Melbourne have lost their past six matches against top-eight sides by an average of 30 points, so back the Dogs to cover the line of 21.5 points at $1.90 with leading AFL betting sites.
Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar has been excellent this season, with the second-most disposals in the AFL. However, the former Magpie has also been a goal threat, kicking eight majors in his last eight matches. At $2 with Bet365, he offers great value to hit the scoreboard once again.
With four goals in his last two matches, Melbourne small forward Kade Chandler has taken his season tally to 17. The 24-year-old kicked three majors when these teams met in round one, so there is value in backing Chandler to kick two or more goals at $3.50 with top sports bookmakers.
