Round 14: Western Bulldogs v Fremantle preview
A clash between two finals contenders kicks off a Super Saturday of AFL action as the Western Bulldogs host Fremantle at Marvel Stadium.
Playing at home, the Bulldogs enter as slight favourites at $1.72 with Bet365, while the Dockers are paying $2.20 with PlayUp. With a close game expected, the line is set at just 5.5 points.
Last Friday, the Bulldogs were disappointing as they fell to the Brisbane Lions by 43 points. After a close first quarter, the Dogs fell away and were comprehensively beaten across the ground.
As one of the most inconsistent sides in the AFL, Luke Beveridge’s men have been impossible to gauge this season. However, as they sit in 11th spot, just one game outside the top eight, top AFL bookmakers are giving them odds of $2.60 for them to make the finals.
Bulldogs midfielder Ed Richards looks set to return this week after clearing concussion protocols. But key defender Alex Keath is set to miss with a hamstring injury, leaving Buku Khamis as the likely replacement.
Before their bye in round 13, Fremantle secured an incredibly impressive 92-point win over Melbourne in Alice Springs. Despite entering the clash as slight underdogs, the Dockers were too good throughout the day as they extended their lead at every break.
Sitting seventh on the ladder, Justin Longmuir’s men hold the best defensive record and second-best percentage in the AFL. Top sports betting sites have the Dockers at just $1.40 to play finals, while they are paying $4 to make the top four.
Don’t expect many changes for the Dockers after their dominant performance, as they will be fresh from the week off.

Bulldogs v Dockers betting strategy
After winning the reverse fixture back in round seven, Fremantle should be relatively confident despite playing on the road. Additionally, the Bulldogs are missing several of their forward options, so they may struggle against the excellent Dockers defence. With a chance to push into the top four, back the visitors to win by 1-39 points at $2.55 with top AFL bookies.
With the Dogs undermanned in the forward line, midfielder Marcus Bontempelli has become a crucial marking option. The 29-year-old has kicked five goals in his last two weeks and has booted multiple goals on seven occasions this season. With the Bulldogs’ season slipping away, look for the captain to stand up and kick two or more goals at $2.30 with top online bookmakers.
Since moving across from the Gold Coast Suns in the off-season, wingman Jeremy Sharp has grown into one of Fremantle’s most important players. Averaging 24 disposals per game over the last month, the 22-year-old has been consistent regardless of how his team fares. Back Sharp to collect 25 or more disposals at $3.40 with BoomBet.
