Round 13: Bulldogs v Lions preview
On Friday night, the Western Bulldogs will be looking to jump into the top eight for the first time in this AFL season with a win over the Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium in round 13.
At home, the Bulldogs are favourites at $1.58 with PlayUp, while the Lions offer value as outsiders at $2.50 with Bet365. The handicap is set at 10.5 points.
Last Friday, the Bulldogs secured their most important win of the season as they beat Collingwood by 18 points at Marvel Stadium. In a high-scoring affair, the Doggies trailed for most of the game but kicked five goals to none in the last quarter to clinch the four points.
With three wins from their past four matches, the Dogs have emerged as one of the form sides of the AFL. While they are sitting 11th on the ladder, AFL bookmakers have them well in the mix for finals at $2.30 to make the top eight.
The Bulldogs will be boosted by the return of midfield pair Tom Liberatore and Ed Richards, who are both back from concussion. However, they are expected to lose half-forwards Laitham Vandermeer and James Harmes to hamstring injuries suffered against the Pies.
Brisbane had a bye in round 12, which followed a disappointing 25-point loss to Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium. Despite entering as strong favourites, the Lions struggled for the majority of the game, with any chances of a comeback countered by a flurry of goals from the Hawks.
Sitting in 13th, Brisbane are now 10 points outside the top eight. After making the grand final in 2023, they definitely have the quality to compete; however, their odds to make the top eight are lengthening by the week, as they are now at $3.20 with top AFL betting sites.
The Lions are expected to regain key forward Eric Hipwood and defender Brandon Starcevich for the trip to Melbourne. Brandon Ryan is the likely omission for Hipwood, while Bruce Reville and Harry Sharp are both at risk.

Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions R13 predictions
With their only loss in the past month coming against the first-placed Sydney Swans, the Bulldogs are rightful favourites for this clash. Although the Lions should be well rested coming off the bye, this could be a struggle for a team that has managed just one win outside the Gabba all season. Back the Bulldogs to continue their good run, covering the handicap of -10.5 points at $1.91 with Bet365.
Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli has been at his best in 2024, averaging 26 disposals and 1.3 goals per game. Fresh off 38 disposals and two goals against the Magpies, expect the 28-year-old to carry on his excellent form. Bontempelli has kicked multiple goals on six occasions this season, so back him to kick two or more at $2.35 with top AFL bookies.
In his 13th season in the AFL, Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko is having a career-best year. The former captain has thrived after moving to the half-back line early this season, collecting over 25 disposals in seven of his nine matches since round three. With the Bulldogs expected the dominate field position, Zorko should be constantly in the action, so back the veteran to collect 30 or more disposals at $2.50 with the best Australian bookmakers.
