Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions Round 5 preview

The Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions head to Norwood Oval in Adelaide for a blockbuster AFL Round 5 clash on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs showed plenty of fight in their narrow loss to Fremantle last weekend, storming home in the final term. With stars like Marcus Bontempelli and Adam Treloar sidelined through injury, coach Luke Beveridge is turning to emerging talents such as Sam Darcy and Ryley Sanders to step up.

Tom Liberatore and Tim English continue to anchor the midfield, while the forward line is starting to click, with Darcy proving to be a genuine threat inside 50.

Brisbane, meanwhile, continued their solid start to the season with a commanding win over Richmond at the MCG. The Lions are unlikely to make many changes, with Callum Ah Chee’s form in the forward line providing a handy boost to an already dangerous side.

The reigning premiers are aiming to make it a perfect 5–0 start to the season, and top bookmakers have them as clear favourites. With the Bulldogs battling injuries, it’s hard to see them toppling the red-hot Lions.

Bulldogs v Lions R5 team news

The Bulldogs are expected to remain largely unchanged. Laitham Vandermeer is listed as a test after being subbed out early against Fremantle with knee soreness, while Taylor Duryea — who was rested last week — will also have to prove his fitness.

Brisbane are unlikely to make any changes following their strong Round 4 win. Kai Lohmann will miss another week with ankle soreness, though the club is hopeful he’ll return in time to face Collingwood next round. Keidean Coleman is still up to five weeks away as he works back from an ACL injury.

Western Bulldogs v Brisbane predictions

Tom Liberatore continues to be a rock in the Bulldogs’ midfield. Having passed 30 disposals in three of his last five outings, he looks a strong bet to do it again at $2.10 with Picklebet.

Brisbane’s Callum Ah Chee has found a home inside forward 50, averaging 1.8 goals over his last five games. He’s a reliable pick for two or more goals at $2.25 with top online bookmakers.

For the Bulldogs, Sam Darcy is emerging as a breakout tall forward. He’s kicked two or more goals in four of his last five outings and averages 2.6 per game in that span, so he’s great value at $2.35 for three or more goals at Neds.
