West Coast v Brisbane Rd 18 match preview
Wrapping up round 18 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season, the Brisbane Lions will be looking to continue their good form as they face the struggling West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium.
The Lions enter this match as clear favourites at $1.20 with Unibet, while the Eagles offer a value selection as the home side at $5 at Bet365. The line is set at 30.5 points.
Last Sunday, West Coast suffered their sixth successive defeat, going down by 54 points to Melbourne at the MCG. Trailing by 37 points at quarter time, the Eagles were never in the match, as they went on to lose every quarter.
As a result of the loss, the Eagles parted ways with coach Adam Simpson during the week. Jarrad Schofield has been named the interim coach for the rest of the season.
Newly in charge, Schofield has swung the axe at selection with four changes this week. Jeremy McGovern, Campbell Chesser, Josh Rotham and Jack Darling are all out, while Harry Edwards, Luke Edwards, Zane Trew and Ryan Maric are the inclusions.
On a completely opposite run of form, the Brisbane Lions won their fifth game in a row last Sunday, beating the Adelaide Crows by 11 points at the Gabba. Led by an excellent midfield display from Lachie Neale (36 disposals, three goals) and Josh Dunkley (35 disposals, one goal), the Lions were too good in a high-scoring clash.
With the win, Chris Fagan’s side have now worked their way up to seventh on the ladder. Just a game outside the top four and holding an excellent percentage, Brisbane now have the third-best odds for the AFL Premiership at $7.50 with leading online bookmakers.
There are a pair of changes in defence this week as Jack Payne and Brandon Starcevich have been ruled out through injury. Darragh Joyce and Shadeau Brain have been named to play.

West Coast v Brisbane betting strategy
As the most in-form side in the AFL coming up against the faltering Eagles, expect Brisbane to make a statement. At $2.40, back the Lions to win by 40 or more points.
Since returning from injury in round 15, West Coast captain Oscar Allen has been a constant threat, with 15 scoring shots in three weeks. In 2023, the 25-year-old averaged 2.3 goals per game, despite the Eagles finishing last on the ladder. Coming off kicking 4.3 in the loss to the Demons, back Allen to continue his good form with three or more goals at $3.50 with top Australian bookies.
Having an excellent second half of the season, Brisbane midfielder Lachie Neale is averaging 31.6 disposals per game over the last nine weeks. The two-time Brownlow Medallist has collected over 35 disposals on six occasions this season, and facing the struggling Eagles, back him to get there again at $3.50 with leading sports betting sites.
