The New Zealand Warriors have a golden chance to find some form this Friday night in Auckland, where they will face the woeful Wests Tigers to kick off round 21 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.

The Warriors have lost four of their last five matches, with their only win in that stretch coming against an under-strength Broncos outfit at Go Media Stadium. The club is 14th on the NRL ladder and needs to win every match for the remainder of the season for a chance to play finals.

The Tigers are well out of contention for finals football, sitting in 17th place on the ladder. Wests will be desperate to snap a six-game losing streak as they stare down the barrel of a third straight wooden spoon.

Tigers coach Benji Marshall is missing experienced playmaker Aidan Sezer (concussion) and David Klemmer (ankle) through injury, while Adam Doueihi is being rested. Meanwhile, second-rower John Bateman has left the club to join Warrington in the English Super League.

In better news for Wests, skipper Api Koroisau returns from a calf issue to start at hooker. Starford To’a comes into the centres, Latu Fainu steps in at halfback, Fonua Pole lines up in the front row, and Isaiah Papali’i starts at lock. Tallyn Da Silva drops to the bench, where Alex Twal and Alex Seyfarth are named to return.

Adam Pompey (knee) and Taine Tuaupiki (concussion) join an ever-growing injury list for the Warriors. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck shifts to fullback, Moala Graham-Taufa moves into the centres, and Edward Kosi lines up on the wing.

Star playmaker Shaun Johnson is still a week or two away due to an Achilles injury, so Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tavita continue as the starting halves pairing.

Even with their injury problems, Andrew Webster’s men should be good enough to dispatch a Wests outfit that is in utter turmoil. The Warriors have won each of their last six clashes with the Tigers, and that trend should continue as they cover the 13.5-point line at $1.91 with Bet365.
