Viddora in great shape for Everest

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell is happy with Everest contender Viddora after her gallop at Caulfield.

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell is confident stable star Viddora is adaptable to all conditions as the dual Group One winner prepares for the world’s richest race on turf.

Viddora continued preparations for Saturday’s $13 million Everest (1200m) with a course proper gallop at Caulfield on Tuesday morning with the mare scheduled to travel to Sydney on Thursday night.

Viddora has never raced in Sydney but the six-year-old was a dominant winner of the Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) at the Gold Coast in the clockwise direction in January.

And she has proven her ability to win interstate.

During her career Viddora has won in South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland.

Viddora has also won on good and soft tracks and Kennewell believes the mare will handle any sort of rain-affected ground at Randwick if that eventuates on Saturday.

“She’s very adaptable everywhere she’s gone, whether it’s travelling or racing the other way,” Kennewell said.

“Dry or wet tracks, she’s done it all.

“(A wet track) shouldn’t be a problem. She’s handled everything. I think she’ll get through it and we just need a little bit of luck.”

Viddora returned to racing this preparation with a convincing win in the Group One Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 28, beating fellow Everest contender Brave Smash.

Kennewell said everything had continued to go to plan since the Moir.

“She had a gallop first thing this morning on the course proper (at Caulfield) and worked really well,” Kennewell said.

“She ran up her last 400 metres in pretty much 23 (seconds) on the dot.

“She looks right on target.

“She’s exactly where I want her to be.”

Viddora was at $13 in a market for The Everest on Tuesday.

“It’s a great field. She’s a great horse though,” Kennewell said.

“She’s got as good a chance as any of them.

“She’s in really good order and if anything she’s probably one of the fresh horses on the scene that’s in good form.”
