Vic racecourses to host jockeys’ funerals
Two Victorian jockeys will be farewelled at country racetracks in the coming days.
The family of veteran hoop Roger Booth have asked for donations to the National Jockeys Trust in lieu of flowers at his funeral on Monday afternoon at Mornington.
Booth, 55, collapsed shortly after riding in a race at Darwin’s Fannie Bay racecourse on Saturday before having a suspected major heart attack in Darwin Hospital.
His death came five days after former Queensland jockey Donna Philpot was killed during a jump-out at Bendigo Racecourse.
The trackwork rider will be farewelled at Bendigo on Sunday afternoon.
Philpot’s family moved to Bendigo three years ago so her daughter Jessie could start a jockey apprenticeship.
