UFC veteran Tony Ferguson promises ‘Magic’ in 2025 return
Tony Ferguson has declared his intention to continue fighting in 2025, with the 40-year-old UFC veteran teasing his return on Instagram this week.
“Completely destroyed myself to reinvent it,” he posted on Thursday.
“As an artist, I aim to show something you’ve never seen before.
“Happy New Year crew. 2025 in my sights.
“Stay tuned and watch the magic unfold.
“New missions acknowledged.
“Fight news coming soon.”
In his prime, Ferguson was one of the best lightweights in the UFC, winning 12 fights in a row and holding the interim lightweight championship in 2017.
However, the American is winless since 2020, losing eight in a row in the promotion.
Most recently, he was submitted by Michael Chiesa in August 2024, a fight which he entered as a $4.50 underdog across UFC bookmakers.
Just months afterwards, he insisted that retirement is still not on the cards.
“F*ck no I’m not retiring,” Ferguson said in October 2024.
“I’m too old to retire.
“I’m 40 years old. I’m halfway to 80, I’ve been competing since I was five years old in multiple sports.
“I wrestled in college, I’ve done all the other stuff, and you know what?
“It’s not like I don’t know anything else. I do. I’m still able to compete.
“When somebody is able to run or sprint faster than me then maybe I will start to consider it.
“But what I really need is to find that coaching, that discipline around other people, being uncomfortable in practice so that way you’re not miserable in the fight.
“That’s where we’re at right now.”
Ferguson is yet to confirm where he will look to fight in 2025, with his UFC run likely over after last year’s loss.
