UBET to sponsor Stradbroke
Queensland wagering giant UBET has stepped into the breach to sponsor the $1.5million Group One Stradbroke Handicap for the next three years.
For the past decade Queensland’s richest and most prestigious race has been sponsored by AAMI but the insurance company has not renewed its contract.
The Stradbroke will be run on June 10 as the last of a proposed three days of racing at Eagle Farm during the winter carnival.
Brisbane Race Club Chairman Neville Bell said he was naturally pleased to have UBET come on board for the Stradbroke.
“It is a very good fit for the two brands. Everyone knows the Stradbroke around Australia and it will be a boost for UBET and us,” Bell said.
“UBET are already a major sponsor and player in Queensland racing. It is only fitting they are now associated with our greatest race.”
Tatts Group chief executive Robbie Cooke said UBET was an obvious sponsor for the Stradbroke which was an iconic race in Queensland.
“The Stradbroke is not only an important part of the racing calendar but also the overall sporting landscape,” Cooke said.
“UBET has worked hard to improve its on course presence in recent years and this is another vital step.”
The wagering arm of Tatts group, UBET is expected to merge with Tabcorp next year but that will have no impact on the sponsorship.
