Two-state options for Sugar Sizzle
Gold Coast trainer Angela Plumb is looking forward to bringing her first runner to Sydney, but plans to start Sugar Sizzle at Rosehill are subject to change.
Plumb will make a call whether the only two-year-old in her stable runs in the $150,000 Golden Gift (1100m) on Saturday when acceptances are taken on Wednesday.
Plumb, who started training at Cranbourne in 2014 before returning to her home state a year ago, also has the option to race Sugar Sizzle closer to home in a 2YO Maiden (1200m) at at Doomben.
“I’ll wait and see how many have accepted right before they close just to see how many are in the field in Sydney,” Plumb said.
The Golden Gift had 11 nominations on Tuesday. Sugar Sizzle was the most experienced contender with two starts.
Secret Lady, who is also entered for Doomben, was runner-up in her first start for Warwick Farm trainer Gary Portelli at Rosehill on November 11 while Californiasurprise won on debut for Peter and Paul Snowden at Muswellbrook on November 5.
Plumb said if Sugar Sizzle headed to Doomben this weekend, Sydney was still on the drawing board with a 2YO Maiden Plate over 1100 metres scheduled for Rosehill next Saturday.
Sugar Sizzle trailed the field in her first start on the Gold Coast in early October but a month later the filly won over 900-metres at Murwillumbah.
“It was a small field (six) but it was against older horses, which is always harder for a two-year-old this early in the season,” Plumb said.
