Twilight racing to return to Randwick
Twilight racing will return to Randwick with 15 meetings scheduled for the Kensington track in the new season.
Two meetings have been held successfully on the refurbished surface this year after it underwent a complete renovation.
The first of the 15 meetings on the track for 2018/19 will be held on September 5 with twilight racing to make a return during the summer months.
The rejuvenation of night racing at Canterbury means it will hold 10 meetings from October 26 to February 22.
The Australian Turf Club has been boosted by the success of the food markets and family themed nights at Canterbury which is used mainly for midweek racing.
“It was pleasing last season to see crowds increase by 33 per cent to 6000 people with the extra numbers predominantly amongst the family demographic,” ATC executive manager, racing, James Heddo said.
“By engaging the local community and improving the racing experience we are confident night racing can continue to grow.”
The ATC released its race dates for next season on Thursday with 114 meeetings to be held at its four metropolitan racecourses and supporting provincial venues.
Group One racing in Sydney begins on August 18 with the Winx Stakes featuring the champion for whom the race is now named.
