Toy Boy ready for tougher Caulfield test

Trainer Greg Eurell hopes Toy Boy can get into a Listed race at Caulfield with a light weight.

Trainer Greg Eurell will assess the nominations for the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield before committing with lightly raced sprinter Toy Boy.

The winner of three of his seven starts, Toy Boy will be nominated for the Listed race over 1200m on Boxing Day.

Having his first start in almost two months, Toy Boy stormed to an impressive win in restricted grade at Mornington on Wednesday prompting Eurell to say there was a good race in him.

“I think he’s naturally going to keep progressing and make into a lovely, older sprinter later on and I think he’ll be capable of tackling a really good race one day,” Eurell said.

“I’ll put a nomination in for the Christmas Handicap on Boxing Day and have a look at it.

“The opportunity is there and he might get in with a nice little weight.

“He has run well at Caulfield before so it might be a good opportunity to test the water with him.”

At his second race start, after winning on debut at Seymour, Toy Boy went on to run second to Ken’s Dream over 1200m at Caulfield before finishing midfield in a Group Two three-year-old race in Adelaide.

Before his Mornington success, Toy Boy was successful at Pakenham in a benchmark 70 grade race over 1200m.

Eurell said he had waited until the Mornington race, looking for the right option and wanting to do the right thing by the horse.
